On the Road Again…

The road is one of the most dangerous places in Cambodia.  A majority of the emergency aid that comes to the health center is due to traffic accidents.  Unfortunately, it seems nearly every family has been effected by a death/severe accident on the road.  This is due, in large part, to the flexibility of the rules that allow drivers of motos, vans, buses, and cars to weave in and out of traffic as they see fit.  The general guide line is simply, if the oncoming vehicle is larger than you move out of it’s way.  Some roads are separated by traffic lines or medians but this is not a guarantee that there will not be a bus just casually driving in the on-coming traffic lane.

Although the road is so perilous, this is where you will find some the the most creative problem solving you’ll find anywhere.  The problem:  Can we fit this as well?

Passengers (we already had 23 and 7 children) figuring out how best to load more bags of sand in the back.

Five on a moto designed for two? No problem. They'd fit one more if someone was willing to sit in the basket up front.

Sorry PETA, they had already unloaded the live chickens that were dangling off the sides by this point.

Bravo

Cruising down the highway. They should probably add another layer of people on top of the people that are on top of the people so they can make sure no one falls off.

This game will be continued…
